2026 Sawtooth Sampler Block of the Month Kickoff
We are kicking off this year’s free Block of the Month with a Sawtooth Sampler. I hope that you are as excited as I am. This was such a fun quilt to make. This BOM is definitely a great make for those who are new to quilting. The blocks are quick makes for those with a busy schedule as well. I know you because I am you. Let’s talk about what to expect and some tips and trick along the way. AWQ 2026 Sawtooth Sampler BOM Setting Pattern, Fabric Requirements and Instructions Link to all patterns can be found here QUILT PATTERNS ♥How does this Block of the Month work? My BOM will run 9 months long. This will give you plenty of time to have it finished and ready for gifting. Let’s be honest, we are ready after 9 months to be done with a project. Month one, January, is the fabric requirements and setting instructions. This also you to choose your fabrics and start working on the setting units. The following months, February thru September, will have 2 pattern releases. All of the patterns will be released on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. These patterns will always be on my website and completely free. ♥Why the setting instructions first? Have you ever done a BOM before and had to wait yet another month for the setting to come out? Are you not sure if you will have enough fabric left or do you even like the setting if you don’t see if first? Those are all things I have heard from fellow quilters when I have joined other BOM sew-a-longs. I wanted to give you this information first. This allows you to work a little bit at a time on it, that way when you complete your final block you’re done. No waiting!! ♥About the setting? Each pattern you are given each month is for a 6-inch finished block. These blocks are set inside of a 12-inch finished Sawtooth Star, hence the name Sawtooth Sampler. 6-inch finished blocks are pretty common in the quilting world, so if you done like a certain block, you could swap it for something you do like. The quilt is also assembled with 3 piece sashing and 9-patch corner stones using an ombre effect. ♥Talk to me about fabric? If you know me then you know what I say, “Your Quilt, Your Rules”. Use whatever fabric makes you happy. This is quilt is definitely a scrap friendly quilt. In most all of my patterns I offer a coloring page. You can follow my layout or use your own. If you want to make the quilt like mine, go for it. I used fabrics from Tula Pink’s True Colors. True Colors – Cotton Candy Fairy Dust – Background True Colors – On the Grid (all 7 colors) – Sawtooth Stars, Sashing and 9 patches True Colors – Sprinkles (all colors except Waterfall) – Monthly Blocks ♥Do I need any special notions or knowledge of other quilting techniques? Nope! This BOM doesn’t need any special rulers, does not contain any FPP or applique. There is some squaring up of units and pieces such as flying geese, hourglass units and half square triangles. It is nice to have special rulers to help with that, those can be done with a standard quilting ruler. In my sewing notion collection, I like to use the Trim It – Cute Cuts by Lori Holt for trimming my blocks. They come in lots of sizes from 2 1/2 inches and up. Using the solid diagonal lines on them helps with lining up. The shades 1/4-inch permitter is awesome for fussy cutting. They are not a must have for this … but I am not going to lie, they are a must have in my ruler collection. ♥Anything else? If you have questions or need help, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I love quilty talk! I hope that you have fun and enjoy some free quilting patterns. Happy Quilting!
